Reservoir providing buffer liquid for the outer seal of an arrangement 2 unpressurized dual seal

Required Media Characteristic-

  • Clean, non-polymerizing

  • Hazardous

  • High vapor pressure, flashing media 

Feature -

  • For media where product dilution is not allowed but leakage to atmosphere in diluted form may be allowed.

  • Cooling coil inside the reservoir or an external water or air cooler takes care of the removal of generated heat.

  • Pumping ring is used for circulation of barrier fluid

  • Used for dual Mechanical seal.


API Plan 53A

Reservoir providing Barrier liquid for the outer seal of an arrangement 3 Pressurized dual seal.
 

Required Media Characteristic-

  • Suspended solids

  • Polymerizing and contaminated media

  • Poor lubrication properties

  • Hazardous / environmentally harmful

  • Leakage may form solids

  • Close to vaporization point

  • Can tolerate dilution with barrier media

Feature -

  • Arrangement same as Plan 52, But instead of buffer fluid barrier fluid is used

  • Barrier liquid enters the process medium through the inner seal faces
